Welcome to AVH Veterinary Group and thank you for taking this virtual tour of our facility. Formerly Ackermanville Veterinary Hospital, AVH Veterinary Group has served the Slate Belt for over 55 years. We are proud of our heritage and we are especially excited about our state of the art veterinary hospital, which opened its doors in April 2002. Please enjoy the tour, and if you would like to visit us in person, please don't hesitate to give us a call and we can arrange to show you our facility.

Relax in our spacious reception area before your scheduled appointment. The AVH pharmacy stocks hundreds of items for your pet's needs. Veterinary pharmaceuticals, like their counterparts in human medicine, are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and must be meticulously cared for. In addition to our in-house pharmacy, our licensed veterinarians can prescribe medications available from compounding pharmacies. These can be formulated using a tasty base that your pet will like.

  • Treatment Area

The central treatment area is spacious and, like the rest of the hospital, meticulously clean and maintained. Domed sunlight tubes allow natural light to enhance the atmosphere of the room. The floorplan was designed so that specialty suites, such as Radiology, Clinical Lab, Surgery and Intensive Care radiate off of the central treatment area. This allows quick access and constant vigilance of hospitalized patients. Even when an AVH team member is catching a few minutes of R & R in the lounge, glass walls allow them to see what is going on in the Treatment Area, the hub of activity in the hospital. This view shows the large glass windows to the Intensive Care ward that ensures that patients in this area are never out of sight.

A second view of the treatment area shows the Clinical Laboratory in the left background, where in-hospital tests are carried out. The alcove in the right background is the Surgical Prep area where instruments are sterilized, surgical gowns and pack wraps are laundered and the scrub sink is located. A large glass pass-through allows the transfer of materials into the Surgery Suite without contamination of the ultra sanitary operating room.

Laboratory analysis is an important component of veterinary health care. Sensitive equipment must be maintained to the highest standards to ensure accurate analysis. Our technical staff is trained to perform a wide variety of tests, many of which can be run during your visit so that you learn the results before you leave AVH. This photograph shows Dr. Leck examining dermatology swab to assess the presence of infectious agents, Sally is running a blood chemistry analysis and Lynn enters information into the computer system.

Intstruments and drapes are made ready for surgery in this alcove adjacent to the surgery suite. After a thorough hand cleaning the instruments are placed in an ultrasonic cleaner. From here they are packed then placed in the autoclave, which sterilizes them. Here Lynn places the sterile pack on the surgery shelves via the pass-through.

A wide variety of surgical procedures, ranging from spay surgery to repair of a broken leg are performed in this specialized suite. Two surgical bays allow simultaneous procedures to be carried out. Our Patients are monitored throughout the operation by trained staff members using pulse oximetry and blood pressure equipment. Sterile technique is ensured by aseptic protocols such as proper surgical garb. Even the air is kept free of contaminants by the use of positive pressure ventilation that removes any aerosolized dust particles.
